Using BIM to Explore & Present Architectural Designs
|
When an architectural design is developed into a visualization of the project it often relies on orthogonal drawings, a physical model or an artist's sketch or watercolor. This type of an approach is often hampered by the ability of the artist or model builder to correctly interpret 2D drawings - which can often lead to incorrect vision of the architect's intent for the design of the project.
As CAD, 3D modeling and BIM technologies have become more integrated into the design process, renderings from these models are becoming more common to the process. Photo-renderings, shaded 3D views and animated walk throughs are all are very effective for communicating a 3D design. These visualization processes are also now widely used to explore, validate and convey architectural design concepts.
Our visualization solutions are divided into two catagories:
- Internal Rendering Engines within ArchiCAD
- ArchiCAD Internal Rendering Engine
- Lightworks Ray-Trace Rendering Engine
- Sketch Rendering Engine
- External Rendering Solutions
In the following sectons on Visualization we will review each of the external rendering, animation and virtual reality solutions in more detail. To learn more about the ArchiCAD rendering engines click here.
